Flexible Full Time Study Courses

Academic Enrichment Centre is a private Tuition and Examination Centre that welcomes applications from students of all abilities and backgrounds. Our flexible tuition programmes make it possible for students to join at any point in the academic year and complete their subject and course of choice.

Depending the students needs and progress to date, we can design a course of study and goals to suit their needs so that the programme of learning is unique to them. This could be tuition for a single subject, an intensive term’s work for a retake, or maybe a combination of A-level study with upgrading GCSE grades.

GCSE and A Level Full Time Study Courses

Flexible choice of GCSE and A level courses can be made according either to a student’s area of interest or a teacher’s area of expertise. This allows students to embark on lively and engaging programmes of study, and gives them an opportunity to make choices about their courses in the same way as they would at university.

Although students generally join Academic Enrichment Centre having already taken GCSE exams, some may wish to take additional subjects or improve existing grades. Most Universities require GCSE Mathematics and English at grade C or above, and there is often a requirement for other subjects, especially for science and language degrees.

A Level Course Requirements

In order to begin A-level work, students are expected to have reached a satisfactory standard in GCSE or equivalent examinations. However, in some cases students may take GCSE subjects alongside their A-levels, either for the first time or as retakes in order to satisfy University entry requirements.

The majority of students taking GCSE courses at the centre are also taking A-levels. Although it is possible to enrol at the centre to exclusively take GCSE subjects. Some students who have started A-level courses without any previous experience in subjects such as Psychology, Economics and Law, may opt to take a GCSE in the subject as part of their preparation for the A-level. This may be a useful strategy, especially on a two-year A-level course.

The standard structure for a GCSE retake course is three hours a week of group tuition week in each subject. A-level students are taught three hours per subject per week if studying one to one, and four hours per week if studying in a small group. It is also possible to complete A-levels intensively over one or one and a half years, and we increase the number of taught hours and fees proportionately to arrange this.

Almost all British Universities require three subjects at A level and some require a fourth subject for AS level. For very competitive universities or very able students, it is also possible take four full A levels. In the light of the current reforms to A-levels, we are able to offer each student individual advice and guidance on the best combination of A level and AS choices according to his or her future University goals.

Our Tutors

All of our tutors are professional, dedicated and systematic in their teaching. They are fully trained within their subject specialisms and are provided with all the latest targeted materials needed to guide your child through the different courses.

Our tutors pride themselves on being supportive, friendly and approachable, which is reflected in the outstanding feedback they receive from their students.

After a vigorous interview process, we tend to choose intelligent and charismatic tutors who enjoy relating to, and setting high standards, for their students. While it is affirmed that intelligence does not make you a good tutor, we like our tutors to be passionate and knowledgeable about their subjects so that they can answer the most curious of questions from their students.

Tuition Centre and the Students

We pride ourselves on offering a unique environment that is quite different to that of many other tuition centres. Our approach to teaching and learning is refreshingly interactive and informal. The support provided by both subject tutors and other academic staff is thoughtful and creative. We take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis, taking into account their personal goals and targets, so that we can best help to meet them.

Students are encouraged at every stage to take an active part in the learning process and take responsibility for their own learning. This is achieved by thorough exam-specific teaching and close attention to the needs of the individual student, enabling reinforcement of knowledge and attention to areas of weakness. Our teaching consists of a combination of small groups, tutorials and possible individual tuition, this allows for an effective coverage of the syllabus, and careful management of each learner’s understanding of subject knowledge and production of written work.

The informal approach to teaching at the centre, with its individual-focused methodology and its flexibility, enables students to approach their work in a calm and supportive environment which allows feedback and discussion with the tutor.

Self-motivation, personal study and research are encouraged; the most successful students are the ones who approach academic study in a consistent, conscientious and organised manner. This is also an important preparation for higher education.
