AS/A Level Biology - AQA 7401/7402
Qualification
Biology is the study of living organisms and how these interact with each other and their environments. Biology is really a multidisciplinary subject that is made of many different and interdependent fields. Biology explores how living systems are constructed, as well as how they develop, communicate, interact, reproduce, defend themselves, and shape the biophysical environment around them. Biologists are constantly looking to understand links between different disciplines of biology and in this sense evolution is a unifying concept in biology.
Students who study biology at A level learn the fundamentals of the cell, biochemistry, ecology, physiology and other key elements of subject so that they can go on to study subjects at degree level such as agriculture, biochemistry, biomedical science, genetics, ecology, medicine, dentistry, neurology, physiology and zoology. Whatever you study, biology at Advanced level will be hard work, but always fascinating, engaging and relevant to you, and above all, this planet.
Study Method
At AEC, our aim is to give students a comprehensive grounding in the basic principles of each topic and then gives opportunities to develop a wider understanding of the subject by reading about relevant current affairs. This is backed up by setting regular homework and weekly timed assignments based on past exam questions. Many topics are directly reinforced by practical work carried out during class time.

AS/A Level Chemistry - AQA 7404/7405
Qualification
Imagine a world without anaesthetics, detergents, painkillers, dyes for fabrics, shampoo, anti-oxidants in jams and fruit squashes, PVC insulation for copper electrical wiring, bleaches, fuels, insecticides…. unthinkable and undesirable in equal measure.
At AEC Tuition, our approach to the teaching of Chemistry is to present it as a dynamic, exciting and intellectually stimulating subject, whilst at all times paying full attention to the demands of the relevant examination specifications. Attention to detail and academic rigour have become by-words for these courses. Students study Chemistry to Advanced Level at AEC in order to gain entry to careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and many other fields not involving Chemistry directly, but in which students benefit from having been exposed to the intellectual discipline and logic of the subject.
Study Method
Our teaching style attempts to combine the best aspects of traditional and modern approaches; for example, our A level one-year intensive courses are enhanced by numerous teacher demonstrations which are in addition to the hands-on practical work which is undertaken by the student. Chemistry is an acquired taste and it is our belief that successful, fulfilled students of the subject are those who enjoy their Chemistry rather than endure it. We do everything possible to promote this feeling amongst the students we teach.
Course Content
- Physical Chemistry
- Amount of substance, Bonding, Energetics, Kinetics, Chemical equilibria, Le Chatelier’s principle and Kc, Oxidation, reduction and redox equations, Thermodynamics, Rate equations, Equilibrium constant Kp for homogeneous systems, Electrode potentials and electromechanical cells, Acids and bases.

AS/A Level Maths Edexcel - 8MA0/9MA0
Qualification
Mathematics is a vast subject studying numbers, quantities, shape, space, their relationships, and a lot more. It attempts to describe this world as accurately and rigorously as possible, and thus is widely regarded as “the most precise human language”. The subject has got a huge number of fields and branches, and is fundamental to much of science and technology nowadays. It is generally divided into Pure and Applied Mathematics: the former studies entirely abstract objects, while the latter is concerned with applications of Mathematics in real life. By the end of the course, a successful student will have developed solid foundations in basic mathematical concepts and ideas, calculation skills, and problem-solving techniques necessary for higher education, further personal studies or careers.
Study Method
Our teaching style attempts to combine the best aspects of traditional and modern approaches; for example, our A level one-year intensive courses are enhanced by exam type questions combined from different awarding organisations to get indepth examination practice and understanding of the topics. We strongly beleive that strong foundation in A Level Maths is central to A Level Physics and A Level Chemistry.
