Qualifications purpose

The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 1 and 2 are for learners to develop understanding and skills in English.

The qualifications give learners the opportunity to:

  • gain a qualification for work, study and life

  • demonstrate the ability at an appropriate level to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English

  • apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in other real life situations.

Qualifications aims and outcomes

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:

  • Listen, understand and make relevant contributions to discussions with others in a range of contexts
  • Apply their understanding of language to adapt delivery and content to suit audience and purpose
  • Read a range of different text types confidently and fluently, applying their knowledge and understanding of texts to their own writing
  • Write texts of varying complexity, with accuracy, effectiveness, and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Understand the situations when, and audiences for which, planning, drafting.

  • Speaking, listening and communicating (Internally set)

Grading

The qualification is graded pass/fail.

Results

Results are usually emailed to candidates and can take up to 28 days after the test.

The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics at Level 1 and Level 2 are for learners who want to develop understanding and skills in mathematics.
The qualifications give learners the opportunity to:

  • demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and
  • apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.

Qualifications aims and outcomes

Functional Skills mathematics qualifications at these levels should:

  • indicate that students can demonstrate their ability in mathematical skills and their ability to apply these, through appropriate reasoning and decision making, to solve realistic problems of increasing complexity;
  • introduce students to new areas of life and work so that they are exposed to concepts and problems which, while not of immediate concern, may be of value in later life; and
  • enable students to develop an appreciation of the role played by mathematics in the world of work and in life generally.

  • using numbers and the number system – whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages
  • using common measures, shape and space
  • handling information and data

Assessment

The qualifications give learners the opportunity to learn the skills to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life.

Qualifications aims and outcomes

The aims of these qualifications are to develop learner understanding and skills in:

  • using ICT
  • finding and selecting information
  • developing, presenting and communicating information.

Assessment

  • The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in ICT at Level 1 and Level 2 consists of one externally assessed assessment. The assessments are available as paper-based and onscreen, on-demand assessment.

Grading

  • The qualification is graded pass/fail.

Results are usually emailed to candidates and can take up to 28 days after the test.

OFF-SITE

We can now accommodate requests from organisations to conduct Functional Skills Tests on their behalf. 

Both Paper Based and Onscreen Tests would require 21 days notice for Tests taken outside of Centre.

Minimum: 10 candidates or by negotiation.
